Women's news from Iran

The Shahrzad News website offers news, opinion, comment on culture by Iranian women. Lead stories this month include "Taraneh’s story: a lesbian’s life in Iran," and a critique from Nobel peace laureate Shirin Ebadi on Iranian government censorship.

"Taraneh (48) fled Iran and sought asylum in Europe 17 years ago. She had known since her childhood that she was attracted to girls, but living her life as a lesbian in Iran was not possible..."

In another story, "Shirin Ebadi, a human rights lawyer, says that the Iranian government is attempting to prevent information about the domestic Iranian situation from reaching the outside world."..
In an interview with the BBC, "Ms. Ebadi also criticised the West, saying talk of military strikes against Iran has given Teheran an excuse to repress people on the pretext of acting in the interests of national defence"...
